Our Teaching Philosophy
Learn Indian classical music through structured online lessons designed for children and adults across the UK. The Isai Academy offers certified Indian Music courses, rooted in Carnatic Music Principles, while making learning engaging, accessible, and performance-oriented for modern students.Using teaching methodologies and experience, Founder and Music tutor, Mrudula has carefully designed the curriculum to help students progressively develop:· Indian Musical literacy· Vocal confidence· Rhythm mastery (Swara and Taalam training)· Carnatic Music Ear training· Indian Music Performance ability· Appreciation for Indian musical heritageAt The Isai Academy, learning is structured yet flexible. Each level includes practical assessments and certification, recognising both achievement and commitment. Students are also encouraged to explore songs they enjoy, creating a personalised learning experience while ensuring concepts are taught at the appropriate level.

Beginner Indian Music Literacy Program

Eligibility: Completion of Level 1 or equivalent knowledgeOverviewA structured intermediate program that develops rhythm mastery, swara application, taalam understanding, and melodic awareness through practical exercises and songs,all rooted in principles of Indian Carnatic Music.Learning OutcomesStudents will:· Strengthen understanding of Saptha Swara· Develop confidence in rhythm and tempo· Understand different taalam structures· Improve listening and taalam identification skills· Mastery in using a Shruthi box and matching to scale· Apply musical concepts through classical and film songsModules Covered· Revision of Level 1 concepts· Jantha Varisai· Hechusthayi & Thagusthayi exercises· Alankaram· Taalam theory and practical application (Jathi and Gathi)· Ear training for rhythm identification· Two classical (Devotional or folk or Light music) songs· Two Indian filmi songsAssessment

Eligibility: Completion of Levels 1 & 2 or equivalent knowledgeOverviewAn advanced program focused on voice confidence, voice modulation, musical expression, swara mastery, and independent performance skills built around the principles of Indian Carnatic and Indian Filmy music.Learning OutcomesStudents will:· Develop voice modulation and singing confidence· Perform with instrumental support· Mastery in listening skills· Expand understanding of Saptha Swara· Demonstrate mastery of shruthi (scale), and taalam· Build confidence in musical presentation and expressionModules Covered· Revision of Level 1 and Level 2 modules· Alankaram refinement (For taalam mastery)· Pre assessment – 2 Varsai, 1 Alankaram, Theory, 1 beginner level song· Introduction to Raaga theory· Introduction to Geetham & Nottu swara· Voice modulation techniques· Performance-oriented training· Learning 4–6 songs – a mix of Indian classical and filmy songs (2 of choice)Assessment· 1 Geetham· 2 classical and 2 Filmy songs to perform independently with instruments and shruthi box
